I think this "vintage" aesthetic everyone is looking forward to put into their works nowadays is rather boring to be honest. There isn't really a great reason for this feeling of mine but yeah

I use it just because the way the drums sound when done like this is, in my humble opinion, way better. The way tapes used to compress drum sounds made it so percussive sounds would sound more muffled without distorting too much.

I like how old hardware used to limit us but also it was what utmost gave us freedom - i don't know if this is dialectical in some way but yeah.

in sum, i enjoy some music that feels like it were recorded on a cassette tape because the way it comes out to be is simply unique. I think I'll try and mix more of this old vintage feeling with something more "nowadays", yk?
